Parks Victoria has advised that urgent repairs are required for visitor safety, and no reopening date has been published. This is a temporary closure, not a permanent one, but please check the Parks Victoria website before making the trip up the mountain.
The Rainforest Gallery is a free elevated boardwalk set within Yarra Ranges National Park on Mt Donna Buang Road, about a ten-minute drive from Warburton on the way to the Mt Donna Buang summit. It carries visitors into a cool-temperate rainforest above Cement Creek, which flows on to join the Birrarung (Yarra River). A 40-metre observation platform sits 15 metres above the forest floor, with a level steel-grating floor and no steps, making it directly accessible from the car park for wheelchairs and strollers. The platform is described by Parks Victoria as one of only three of its type in Australia.
From the platform, a longer elevated walkway descends via roughly 100 stairs for a walk of about 20 minutes. This route is not wheelchair accessible, but it brings you closer among towering old-growth Mountain Ash that can reach 65 metres tall and ancient Myrtle Beech trees, many of them 300 to 400 years old, along with the ferns and mosses of the forest floor.
Entry is free and the site is unstaffed, normally open during daylight hours. As a national park, dogs are not permitted, though assistance dogs are welcome. A note on site reminds visitors that limbs may fall from the tall trees, so take care while exploring.
