[DRAFT-REAL] Cement Creek Redwood Forest

Tucked just outside East Warburton, this grove of Californian redwoods (Sequoia sempervirens) was planted by the State Forestry Department in 1930 — an experiment in growing tall timber that long outlived its commercial purpose. Today, with nearly a century behind it, the stand has matured into one of the most-photographed quiet places in the valley.

It’s a short, easy walk from the roadside car park into the centre of the grove. The redwoods rise in straight, soft-barked columns; the ground is a deep mat of needles that swallows sound. Bring a picnic blanket — the lawns are favourite among day-trippers up from Melbourne and families from the surrounding towns. It’s particularly good in early morning when light filters through the canopy.

There are no facilities. Bring water, take everything out with you, and dogs need to be on a lead.
