Sitting right on the Lilydale to Warburton Rail Trail, Cog Bikes Australia is a one-stop base for exploring the valley on two wheels. It combines a bike shop, a hire depot, a full repair workshop and an on-site cafe, so you can hire a bike, grab a coffee and roll straight onto the trail. It is the flagship Warburton location of a family-owned and run operation with sister hire hubs across the Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges.
Bike hire is the main draw. You can choose e-bikes, comfort bikes and bikes for all ages and fitness levels, including children’s bikes plus children’s trailers and bike seats, with hire periods of two hours, four hours or a full day, and a helmet included free with every hire. Walk-ins are welcome during business hours, but booking ahead is recommended on weekends and public holidays. For one-way rides, the operator runs a network of pick-up and drop-off points along the trail – such as Gracious Grace Cafe at Lilydale and The Trail Cafe at Mt Evelyn – so you can ride in one direction and be collected at the other end (a minimum of 24 hours notice is required for these points).
Alongside hire, the shop sells new bikes, parts, gear and accessories, and the on-site workshop handles servicing and repairs, from quick fixes to full tune-ups. When you are ready for a break, the Cog Bikes & Brew cafe serves coffee and food, making it an easy spot to start, finish or pause a day on the Warby Trail.
Cog Bikes Australia is open most days, closing Tuesday and Wednesday, with a slightly earlier finish on Thursday. It is a natural launching point for a self-guided ride along the Lilydale to Warburton Rail Trail through the Upper Yarra Valley.
