Warburton Golf and Sporting Club sits at the entrance to the Warburton township, an 18-hole, par-69 course laid out among the mountains of the Yarra Valley. It is one of the more picturesque courses in Victoria, with panoramic mountain views, native wildlife and a layout that plays shorter than most at around 5,317 metres. Don’t let the length fool you: small greens and uneven lies make it a genuine challenge, and the club’s 18th hole has been celebrated as the best 18th on the mainland in Inside Golf magazine’s national poll. Players short on time can opt for a nine-hole round instead.
The club has a long history in the valley. It was established in 1932 as a nine-hole course and expanded to the full 18 holes in 1970. Today it is a privately run, fully licensed club that warmly welcomes green-fee players and corporate or group bookings alongside its members. Public bookings are available year-round, and a round can be packaged with accommodation, lunch, dinner and drinks.
Facilities cover everything a visiting golfer needs. There is a pro shop, motorised and pull carts for hire, and practice facilities including a driving range, putting green and chipping green, with club rental available. Professional instruction and group lessons can be arranged. The spacious clubhouse has a fully licensed bar and dining, plus a function room seating well over 100 for weddings, functions and events.
The course is open to play year-round from early morning (around 7am), while the clubhouse offers dinner on Thursday evenings from 5pm. Full daily opening hours are not published, so it is best to phone ahead to confirm tee times and clubhouse hours before you visit. The club is at 17 Dammans Road, Warburton, a short distance from the township centre.
